“A Riot is the language of the unheard,” said the great Martin Luther King Junior. our country is burning as a result of a senseless and cold blooded murder on the sidewalks of Minneapolis. Mr George Floyd was pleading for his life and telling the police office with his knee on his neck ( for over 8 minutes his knee was on Mr Floyd’s neck) I cannot breathe. At one point Mr Floyd can be heard crying out for his mother. What have we become? The brutal killing of a man who is faced down and handcuffed on the ground, no threat to anyone. What exactly was his crime? A forged check ? Maybe its time for the country to have a reality check.
How can we begin to heal ? To bridge the gap between the races? To understand that we are all part of the human race. Everyone’s blood runs red. We are not so different, we are all God’s children. I believe in the innate goodness of people. Many of whom are color blind. There are so many of us who love one another regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, we are friends, we are co workers, we are members of churches and volunteer groups, we are a community and we are a family. We, as a country are so much better than what is happening now. I am fearful for our children and the world we will leave to them, unless we start to be better than hate, and prejudice, and violence.
I understand the anger and frustration of the protestors. If you watched the video of George Floyd and were not stomach sick, then you are not breathing. However, many of the communities and businesses destroyed are in minority communities and owned by minorities. What crime have these people committed? What problems are solved by looting stores and hurting people? To burn someone’s business, that they may have invested everything in. Hurting our fellow Americans how is that helpful? The nation is mourning. We are all wearing black and all our hearts are heavy. We stand in solidarity with the family of George Floyd. And, also for peace and Justice.
I would like to share with you something that was posted on facebook. A woman holding a sign that read, “Not all blacks are criminals, Not all white’s are racist, Not all cops are bad, ignorance comes in all colors.” I could not have said it better myself. Love is the one thing we need most now. The innocence of children who play with each other and are friends no matter what the other one looks like. The pure heart of a child, that’s the kind of love we need to flow through our streets, our cities , our communities. God’s amazing love and grace, let it flow like a river to heal our broken hearts.
“Justice will not be served until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those who are.” Benjamin Franklin, said that. Well, America is affected, mankind is affected, love each other. Be kind to one another, pray together and for each other. Respect authority, but speak out when it is being abused. Prayers are our voices reaching out for hope, help, and healing. Dear God, bless us one and all. Let your love rain down upon us. lets help each other, and lets heal this great nation of ours. We are so much better than this. Let’s get out there into this world people, and prove it. Random acts of kindness and senseless acts of love. Pass it on…….
